Robert F. Kennedy 1964 Typed Letter Signed - "President Kennedy Would Have Been Proud Of You"
Typed letter signed “Bobby Kennedy”, personal stationery, September 28, 1964, to Brian Sternberg in Seattle, Washington, in full:
I noted from press reports that you have been able to write Mrs. John F. Kennedy a letter replying to one which you received last year from my brother, President Kennedy.
You are to be congratulated on this achievement. I am sure it took more courage to write the letter than it did to clear the bar at 16 feet, 8 inches when you set the world record in pole vaulting a few weeks before your accident.
President Kennedy would have been proud of you as all of us are.
Keep up your marvelous courage and spirit.
I join many others in hoping your progress will continue in the future.
Presented further authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA with the original mailing envelope affixed to the verso.
Brian Sternberg was a world record holder in the men's pole vault who was paralyzed from the neck down after a trampoline accident in 1963. He lived until he was 69 and Sternberg's unusually long life as a quadriplegic was credited, in part, to his athletic training and to a positive attitude.
