37th President. Autograph letter signed “RN”, personal stationery, October 7, 1981, to Harry McLaughlin of the Patriot-News in York, Pennsylvania, in full:
Due to the necessity to go to Cairo coupled with the time required in our move to New Jersey, it won’t be possible for me to come to York this fall.
I shall keep it on my tentative calendar - for a visit at a later date.
Accompanied by original mailing envelope.
Anwar Sadat was assassinated just 1 day before Nixon wrote this letter. Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan all met at the White House on October 8 before Nixon, Carter and Ford headed to Andrews Air Force Base to leave for the funeral of Sadat. This was only the 2nd time Nixon was at the White House since his resignation.
In very fine condition, two horizontal mailing folds.
