Dr. Benjamin Waterhouse was a prominent physician and personal friend of the Adams family, maintaining a long correspondence with John Adams and later interacting with John Quincy Adams. Waterhouse, a Harvard professor, famously introduced smallpox vaccination to the U.S. and was defended by JQA during medical controversies.
