American citizen from Chicago, Illinois, who worked as a nightclub operator in the city of Dallas, Texas. On November 24, 1963, he fatally shot Lee Harvey Oswald while the latter was in police custody after being charged with assassinating U.S. President John F. Kennedy two days earlier. A Dallas jury found him guilty of murdering Oswald, and Ruby later received the death penalty. Later, Ruby appealed his conviction, had it overturned and was granted a new trial. However, on January 3, 1967, as the date for his new trial was being set, Ruby became ill in his prison cell and died of a pulmonary embolism from lung cancer.
Autograph letter signed “Jack Ruby”, one page, 6″ x 4″, Dallas, Texas; January 7, 1964 Sent from the Dallas County Jail, this letter, written in pencil, is addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pennington and thanks them for their Christmas card. It reads in full:
Thank you so much for your most beautiful Christmas card, and may I wish you both a belated holiday greeting and the best of everything for the year ‘64’. God Bless both of you for thinking of me. P.S. You have helped to lift one’s spirit and courage.

Accompanied by a separate envelope, addressed in Ruby’s hand but unsigned, postmarked February 4, 1964 - it is to the same recipient as the letter so it’s interesting to see a nearly month-long difference in dates. This envelope is separately encapsulated by PSA/DNA
