$325.00

31st President. Typed letter signed “Herbert Hoover” AS PRESIDENT, October 8 1930, The White House Washington stationery, to John C. Shaffer in Chicago, Illinois, in full:

I wish to thank you again for the kind editorials in the Post.

I hope some time when you are in Washington you will drop in to see me.

Light stain to left of text and signature. Slight ink adhesion issue at start of signature so Hoover evidently started his signature again.

John Charles Shaffer was a newspaper editor and publisher in the midwest. He eventually built an empire, starting in 1901 when he purchased the Chicago Evening Post. He went on to then purchase a series of other papers including the Indianapolis Star, Muncie Star, Terre Haute Starr, and the Louisville Herald. He also purchased the Denver Post, Denver Times, and Rocky Mountain News.
