Gerald Ford 1973 Typed Letter Signed as Vice President - Sent One Day After His Confirmation as Vice President
38th President. Typed letter signed “Jerry” AS VICE PRESIDENT, one page, 7 x 9, Vice President letterhead, December 7, 1973, to longtime Georgia Congressman Jack Brinkley, in part:
With humility and gratitude, I thank you for your confidence in confirming my nomination as Vice President of the United States. It is heartwarming to have your personal support and encouragement as I enter this new office. Naturally, I am sad at leaving the House which has been my home for nearly twenty-five years. However, fulfilling the responsibilities of the second office in our Nation is a challenge in which I will need the support and counsel of my friends in the House.
In overall very fine condition.
Accompanied by original envelope.
Fantastic letter from Ford thanking a Congresswoman for confirming him as Vice President one day after he took the oath of office. The Senate voted to confirm Ford as VP on November 27 and the House confirmed the vote on December 6, following Spiro Agnew’s resignation on October 10. Ford would become President just 8 months later.
