Typed letter signed “Douglas MacArthur” during MacArthur's early years as a junior officer in his first command of Company K, 3rd Engineer Battalion, March 17, 1909, 8×10.5, MacArthur recommends disciplinary action against several non-commissioned officers and enlisted men for misconduct both on and off post, in full:

I have the honor to recommend that Sergeant James E. O'Neil, Corporals Charles Livingston and John Davis of this company be reduced to the grade of 2nd. Class Private.

Sergeant O'Neil for disgraceful conduct in the city of Leavenworth and for continually absenting himself from reveille roll call.

Corporal Livingston for disgraceful conduct in the city of Leavenworth resulting in his arrest, detention and conviction by the civil authorities on the charge of carrying concealed weapons and shooting within city limits.

Corporal Davis for drunkenness in barracks and urinating on the squad room floor.
