Typed letter signed “Douglas MacArthur” during MacArthur's early years as a junior officer in his first command of Company K, 3rd Engineer Battalion, July 24, 1908, 8×10.5, MacArthur recommends reduction in rank for misconduct in the barracks, in full:
I have the honor to recommend that Corporal Claude L. Bradford of this company be reduced to the grade of 2nd Class Private, for urinating off the rear porch of the Company barracks.
A pencil note in another hand at the bottom of the page reads, "Reduced July 25/08."
