Charles Lindbergh Signed 1928 Luncheon Program from Havana, Cuba - Spirit of St. Louis
Impressive original menu from a luncheon held in honor of Col. Charles A. Lindbergh by the American Chamber of Commerce of Cuba, dated Saturday, February 11, 1928. The event took place at the historic Casino Nacional in Havana following Lindbergh’s groundbreaking transatlantic flight. Measuring 8.5" x 11", the folded program features an elegant design with crossed Cuban and American flags on the cover and a bold ink signature of Lindbergh on the front panel. The interior includes a printed photograph of Lindbergh standing beside the Spirit of St. Louis, along with an elaborate French-style menu offering “Fresh Strawberry Mousse ‘Lindy’” and “Cocktail ‘Presidente.’”
Light toning and faint handling marks consistent with age, but overall in very good condition with a crisp, clean signature and vibrant presentation.
On May 21, 1927, Charles Lindbergh completed the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight in history, flying between Roosevelt Field on Long Island, NY, and Le Bourget Field in Paris, France, in 33 hours, 30 minutes. When he landed, he became a world hero who would remain in the public eye for decades. Throughout the rest of the year, banquets would be held in his honor all across the country.
On February 11, 1928, Charles Lindbergh was notably active on a goodwill tour of Latin America with his famous plane, the "Spirit of St. Louis".
This tour followed his historic solo transatlantic flight in May 1927. On February 8, 1928, just a few days before this luncheon, Lindbergh landed in Havana, Cuba, the final stop of this seven-week tour. His arrival was met with a large crowd and excitement.
