Your letter of 25th came during my absence from home, & since my return I have been so engaged in our U.S. Court as compel the postponement of all correspondence. I have now only time to thank your young Republican friends for their letter & to bid them God speed on their great work. When a young man identifies himself with the Republican party he enters into an
inheritance of great & inspiring memories. In the modern history of the Dem. party I see nothing that tends to kindle patriotism or develop a love of freedom, truth or justice in the young.
