Partly-printed document signed "Jos: Reed / President" and "T Matlack / Sect'y", May 10, 1780, 9x11.25, Philadelphia, headed “In the Name and by the Authority of the Freemen of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, The Supreme Executive Council of the said Commonwealth”, appointing Thomas Long Major of the Second Battalion of Militia in Bucks County.

In very good condition, paper seal mostly intact, folds with some minor paper loss and edge tears, remnants of masking tape at upper corners verso causing faint bleedthrough.

Joseph Reed was a president of the Continental Congress and signer of the Articles of Confederation (1741-1785) who also served as Washington's aide-de-camp during the Revolutionary War. Fantastic Revolutionary War-dated document.
