Harry Truman 1945 Typed Letter Signed as President - Mentioning the "U.S.S. Missouri"

$950.00

33rd President. Typed letter signed “Harry S. Truman” AS PRESIDENT, November 3, 1945, The White House Washington stationery, to Isaac A. Hedges as Chairman of the St. Louis Committee Navy Day Celebration, in full:

It was most thoughtful of you to send me that portfolio of songs of Missouri and I am more grateful to you than I can say.

I can think of nothing more fitting than that the originals should find a place among the treasures of the mighty U.S.S. MISSOURI, in which we Missourians take such pardonable pride. I am glad also to know that another set has been deposited in the museum of the Jefferson Memorial Expansion Project in the Old Court House in St. Louis.

Hearty congratulations on the Navy Day celebration in St. Louis. I was delighted to hear what a grand success it was. You did yourself proud as Chairman.

Accompanied by original White House mailing envelope (interestingly, there is no postage on it).

In very fine condition. Mailing fold.
