George H.W. Bush 1979 Autograph Letter Signed - "The First President I Met Was Dwight Eisenhower"

$650.00

41st President. Autograph letter signed “George Bush”, one page both sides, 6.25 x 4.5, personal letterhead, September 23, 1979. Letter to Ron Wade, in full:

The first President I met was Dwight Eisenhower. I met him with my father then a U.S. Senator from Conn—a simple hand shake was all.

The Congress has usurped some of the powers of the presidency or at least cut into them—but that can be reversed. Weak Presidents have helped this trend.

Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope.

In fine condition.

Bush had announced his presidential candidacy in May, and at the RNC in 1980 was named the candidate for vice president. The Reagan-Bush ticket handily defeated the incumbent President Carter, who Bush alludes to with his jab in the final sentence of this letter.
