Benjamin Harrison 1895 Autograph Letter Signed - To His Former Vice President, Levi Morton

$2,000.00

** While in New York to sit for his official White House portrait, Harrison writes to his former Vice President, Levi Morton, who was then serving as Governor of New York **

23rd President. Autograph letter signed “Benj Harrison”, June 3, 1895, personal stationery from Indianapolis, Indiana but written while at the 5th Ave. Hotel in New York City, to Levi Morton, his former Vice President and, at the time, Governor of New York, in full:

I received the card asking me to have a search made for a lost eye glass, but nothing of the kind could be found. One of your staff left a pair of gloves but these have not been reclaimed. I hope you are feeling very well. The heat is so intense in the city that it is almost dangerous to sit still in your room, let alone ___ a procession. Eastman Johnson cant do much work but I hope he is almost ready to discharge me, for I can't stand New York in such weather.

With kind regards to Mrs. Morton.

Eastman Johnson painted the official White House portrait of Harrison in New York in 1895. Harrison was clearly bothered by the New York heat while he sat for the painting sessions!

Fantastic association letter, rarely seen communication from President to Vice President.
