William H. Taft Typed Letter Signed as President

27th President.  Typed letter signed (TLS) “Wm. H Taft” AS PRESIDENT, July 2, 1912, The White House Washington stationery, to the prominent Catholic leader Archbishop John Ireland of Minnesota. Ireland was a particularly active cleric in public affairs and political matters.  The letter reads, in full:

I have your letter of June 29th, recommending General James R. O’Beirne for appointment as pension agent at New York City.  If opportunity offers, I shall be glad to consider General O’Beirne’s name.  There is a provision in pending legislation for the abolition of this and other similar agencies; and, pending action on this matter, and previous to the receipt of your letter, I had appointed Luther S. Fountain to fill the position during the interim.

The letter has fold lines. It is displayed in a special folder and identified in gold lettering on front cover of the attractive case.
