Fine partly-printed document signed (DS) “William McKinley” AS PRESIDENT, Washington, May 9, 1900, 17.5×14, military appointment of Samuel Louis Franklin Piper as “Captain, Company B, First Separate Battalion of the Militia of the District of Columbia”, countersigned by Elihu Root as Secretary of War, with embossed seal.

In excellent condition, large, bold autograph, very minor toning at edges.

The document originates from an archive of military appointments of Piper – also available include documents from William Taft and Grover Cleveland.
