** Apollo 9 Flown Quote Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart **

RARE space-flown printed inspirational quote, printed in black ink on gold-bordered parchment-like paper, 4×3.  This quote spent ten days in space aboard Apollo 9, March 3-13, 1969, with crewmembers Jim McDivitt, Dave Scott, and Rusty Schweickart. Schweickart has signed: “Flown on Apollo 9” at top, and “Rusty Schweickart” at bottom.  The printed quote reads:

…the wise man looks into space, and does not regard the small as too little, not the great as too big; for he knows that there is no limit to dimensions.

The quote is attributed to Lao-tse by Schweickart on this parchment.  However, this quote is often attributed to Zhuangzi, literally Master Zhuang, a Chinese philosopher, who is supposed to have lived during the Warring States Period, corresponding to the Hundred Schools of Thought. His name is also transliterated as Zhuang Zi, Zhuang Zhou, Chuang Tzu, Chuang Tse. Chuang was his surname and Tse indicates master; so he would be referred to as Master Chuang. You will also see his name given as “Chuang Chou” or “Zhuang Zhu”, this was his proper name, first and last, not an alternate spelling of “Chuang Tzu” or “Zhuangzi”.

Uncommon space flown relic.
