First Lady. Amazing association typed letter signed (TLS) “Lady Bird” with handwritten postscript and salutation, January 16, 1974, 6.5×8.5, LBJ Ranch Stonewall, Texas stationery, “Mrs. Agnew” crossed out in salutation and “Judy” handwritten, in full:
You were so kind to touch the first days of this New Year with your good wishes.
Though these holidays held a certain sadness, there also was a happy measure of joy because of the thoughtfulness of friends and the glow of memories they evoked.
I know that I will not forget the times Lyndon and I shared with you — and I thank you for letting me know you remember them, too.
With my hopes that happiness comes to all your days in 1974.
With handwritten postscript: “Every now and then I see some of the Senate wives – they think so much of you -“
Christmas 1973 would be the first one Lady Bird celebrated without LBJ as he passed away in January of that year. It would also be the first Christmas for the Agnew’s after Spiro’s October 10, 1973 resignation as Vice President.
Accompanied by original mailing envelope.
