6th President.  Manuscript letter signed “John Quincy Adams” as Secretary of State under President James Monroe, December 4, 1817, 7.5×9.5, to John B. Strong, in full:

Your letter of the 1st instant has been received no time will be lost in apprising you of the sailing of any public vessel which may be employed for carrying the Agent who shall be appointed by this Government to St. Domingo, that you may have the opportunity of going in the same vessel, according to the President’s permission.

In very good condition, folds with archival repairs on verso.  Overall even toning.
