15th President.  Partly-printed document signed (DS) “James Buchanan” AS PRESIDENT, one page, approx. 7×8, February 26, 1861. President Buchanan directs “the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to my ratification of the Convention between the United States and the Republic of Venezuela, signed at Valencia on 14 Jan’y 1859“.

Buchanan’s signature is large and very dark, written just two weeks before Abraham Lincoln took office. There is some yellowing along the vertical folds but a nice example.  Presented custom framed and matted to an overall size of 14×17.
