31st President.  Typed letter signed (TLS) “Herbert Hoover” AS PRESIDENT, November 16, 1932, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, to Max Plowman in East Orange, New Jersey, in full:

I have been deeply touched by the thousands of messages from friends who, like yourself, have loyally supported my efforts have given me to much friendship, and have been moved by a personal warmth of understanding to send me a cheering word of greeting.  I am indeed grateful for it.

Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt defeated incumbent Republican President Herbert Hoover in the 1932 presidential election just eight days before this letter was written.
