Description
32nd President. Typed letter signed (TLS) “Franklin D. Roosevelt” AS PRESIDENT, February 11, 1937, The White House stationery, 7×8.5, to Leroy Rodman at the Columbia University School of Law, in full:
This acknowledges your letter of February 6th. I am transmitting it to the Attorney General who is familiar with the situation to which you refer.
Thanking you for your letter and with kind regards
Less than a week earlier, Roosevelt announced a plan to expand the Supreme Court to as many as 15 justices. Considering the letter was sent to a lawyer at a leading law school and the Attorney General is referenced by FDR, it would seem the letter is in direct regard to the court-packing plan announced on February 5.
