Description
34th President. Typed letter signed (TLS) “Dwight D Eisenhower”, November 8, 1967, 7×10.25, personal “DDE” stationery from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, addressed to: “Honorable Spiro T. Agnew / Governor of the state of Maryland / Annapolis, Maryland 21404”, in full:
Thank you very much indeed for your cordial invitation to speak at the Annual ‘Kick-off’ Luncheon of the Maryland Heart Association in Baltimore, Wednesday, January 24, 1968.
Regretfully I must tell you that I cannot accept. Mrs. Eisenhower and I will be on our annual winter’s stay in California. My doctors, for several years, have prohibited transcontinental trips — unless of an emergency nature.
Nevertheless, I send to you and members of the association my best wishes for a most rewarding meeting, together with my renewed gratitude for your thought of me.
Great association from a former President to a future Vice President.
In fine condition, mailing folds.
