34th President.  Typed letter signed (TLS) “Dwight D. Eisenhower”, January 31, 1969, personal Gettsyburg, Pennsylvania stationery but sent from Walter Reed General Hospital, to Colonel M. David Samples in New York, in full:

Thank you for the distinctive paperweight that you arranged to have sent to me.  I have instructed my staff to see that is placed on my desk in Gettysburg.  It was most kind of you to remember me, and I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

With best wishes for a happy New Year.

Eisenhower spent the last few months of his life at Walter Reed, where he died on March 28, 1969.

This letter has been trimmed on its sides and now measures approximately 5×7.5.  Toning and signature a shade light.  An uncommon very late-in-life signature.
