34th President.  Typed letter signed (TLS) “D.D.E.”, May 22, 1968, personal Gettsyburg, Pennsylvania stationery but sent from Walter Reed General Hospital, to Louise Furman, an Air Force nurse who cared for Eisenhower at his winter home in Indian Wells, California, in full:

Thank you for your note. I deeply appreciate your thoughtfulness and your concern for my well being and am pleased to report that my doctors are allowing me to be up and around a couple hours each day.

Thank you for the map.  It is very explicit and I am certain that even I could follow your instructions.
