7th President.  Partly-printed document signed (DS) “Andrew Jackson” AS PRESIDENT, one page, 11.75×9.25, June 20, 1831. President Jackson appoints Benjamin J. Totten, as “a Passed Midshipman in the Navy of the United States.” Crisply signed at the conclusion by Jackson and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Levi Woodbury.  Seal intact at top left.

Three vertical folds (one passing through a single letter of the signature), light soiling, otherwise fine condition. A seldom-seen format in the era of America’s scaled-back naval forces following the War of 1812.
