Autograph letter signed “Benj Butler”, to F. W. Chandler, Bay View, July 27, 1873, in full:
The stonecutter says that he wants a cross-section of your steps and buttresses, so as to be able to get them cut. Please have it sent at yr earliest convenience.

Francis Ward Chandler (1844 – 1926), attended Harvard at the beginning of the Civil War. He studied architecture following the war and later served as head of the department of architecture at the MIT from 1888 to 1911. He served as a supervising officer the US Department of the Treasury in Washington DC (1871-1874).
