This is just a note to tell you how pleased I was to see the Star-News’ editorial endorsement and your forthright review of the record.  Beyond that, I want you to know how much your thoughtful and perceptive editorials have meant to me over the last four years.  I am sure you that, if I am returned to office, I will do everything I can to merit the confidence that you, Jack Kauffmann, and your colleagues have again placed in me.

In very good condition.

Just four days later, on November 7, 1972, Nixon would defeat George McGovern in one of the most lopsided elections in history.
