First Lady to President Ronald Reagan.

Impressive typed letter, unsigned, as First Lady, February 25, 1986, The White House stationery, to “Mrs. Lamar Alexander / Executive Residence / Nashville, Tennessee 37204”, in full [handwritten portions in bold]:

Dear Honey,

You were wonderful as the hostess of the Governor’s Spouses luncheon on Monday, and for making the event so very enjoyable.

Your idea of making it a working luncheon was great – and you carried it off with such grace.

As always, I am so happy to talk to those who share my concern for the fight against drug and alcohol abuse, and who have so many positive suggestions of ways to implement new ideas.  The participants seemed to be vitally interested in the reports and made many useful suggestions.

I look forward to seeing you again, and extend my sincere thanks for your many efforts.

Honey Alexander was the wife of Tennessee Governor Lamar Alexander, who at the time was Chairman of the National Governors Association.

Fantastic letter touching on Nancy Reagan’s most cherished topic of drug and alcohol abuse – “Just Say No”!
