20th President. Manuscript letter signed “J.A. Garfield”, October 25, 1875, 7.5×9.5, recto and verso of “House of Representatives, Washington, D.C.” stationery, to L.S. Abbott in the Treasury Department, in full:
Yours of the 22nd inst. was forwarded from Hiram, after I left there and is just received here. I have come to stay, and shall take pleasure in doing anything I can to assist you.
I fully agree with your purpose of getting into independent life, which, I am sure, cannot be done in the Government Service.
I am glad to tell you that my health is exceedingly good and that I bore my full share in the labors of the campaign.
In very good condition, intersecting folds and light toning.
