33rd President. Typed letter signed “Harry S. Truman”, 7.25×10.5, September 15, 1955, personal “Federal Reserve Bank Building / Kansas City 6, Missouri” stationery, in full:
My suggestion to you is to go to the library and read a book which was written by Mr. William Hillman, called ‘Mr. President’. That will tell you how I got started in politics, and then the best thing you can possibly do is use your own judgement.
Politics is the Government under our system, and it is made up of men who understand public relations.
A great content letter from Truman shortly after leaving office, almost certainly responding to a young admirer.
