Product Description

41st President.  Typed letter signed (TLS) “George B” AS VICE PRESIDENT, February 10, 1987, 8.5×11, The Vice President Washington stationery,

I received your warm letter of January 28, and appreciate your thoughtfulness in forwarding to Barbara and me the photos from our visit in Phoenix last October.  The verse, Just for Today, came at a very appropriate time.  Thank you so much.

I can understand your concern over the Iran issue. Neither I nor the President condone the apparent diversion of funds, any ransom payments, or any violation of the laws of this great nation. Both the President and I want the truth in the matter, and we shall do all that is necessary to gain that truth. You and every American deserve to know the facts in this matter and I can assuredly say—you will.

In closing, I want you to know that Barbara and I have deeply appreciated the warm hospitality extended to us during our previous visits to Phoenix.  At some point in the near future, I hope we will once again have the opportunity to visit scenic Phoenix.

Accompanied by the original mailing envelope with a preprinted franking signature.

In fine condition, with staple holes to the upper left corner.

During his election campaign in 1988, Vice President Bush denied any knowledge of the Iran–Contra affair by saying he was “out of the loop”. Though his diaries included that he was “one of the few people that know fully the details”, he repeatedly refused to discuss the incident and won the election.
