25th President. Typed letter signed “Wm. McKinley” AS PRESIDENT, November 10, 1900, Executive Mansion Washington stationery, to Cornelius Bliss, who had previously served as his Secretary of the Interior, in full:
Please accept my cordial thanks for your message of congratulation. Mrs. McKinley and I were much pleased to have your kindly comment on the situation in your vicinity.
Assuring you that your thoughtfulness is appreciated, believe me
Lengthy handwritten postscript, with additional signature: “Come down & see us, bring Mrs. Bliss & Miss Bliss, we shall be honored if you will come & I will then have an opportunity to thank you for your great work. W Mck.
Just 4 days earlier, McKinley won re-election by defeating his Democratic challenger William Jennings Bryan. McKinley would die less than a year later after being shot.
A great alternative to a full ALS as President!
