37th President.  Autograph letter signed (ALS) “Dick Nixon”, one page, personal “La Casa Pacifica, San Clemente, California” imprinted letterhead, 7.25×10.5, February 28, 1977. A letter to his daughter Tricia’s in-laws, sending thanks for a gift and recalling their announcement of Ed and Tricia’s engagement at the White House, in full:

This is just a note to let you know how much I appreciated the note pad which you sent to me with Tricia.

It’s a handsome & useful gift which will have an honored place on my desk.

It is hard to realize that almost six years have passed since Ed + Tricia announcement their engagement at the White House on March 16.

Through those years it has been a privilege for me to get to know Ed for the intelligent, thoughtful and very fine man he is.

We are proud to have him as a member of our family.

Pat joins me in sending our warmest regards.

The original transmittal envelope to “Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cox” is included.

Extraordinary handwritten letter from Nixon, recalling the engagement of his beloved daughter.

Tricia Nixon was the 8th daughter of a President to be married in the White house and her June 12, 1971 wedding was the first June wedding held there. Moreover, it was the first marriage ceremony to be performed outdoors in White House history.
