5th President. Partially printed document signed (DS) “James Monroe” AS PRESIDENT, October 29, 1818, countersigned by Josiah Meigs as Commissioner of the General Land Office, 13×10, headed “James Monroe President of the United States of America”.  The land grant gives title to three hundred acres of land for former military service; this parcel went to the estate of George Melvin of the Georgia line.  Interestingly, the land was also appropriated for “the Society of the United Brethern for propagating the Gospel among the Heathen.” Seal at lower left.

In very good condition, folds, dark signature.
