14th President.  Free franked mailing envelope, presumed as President, 5.25 x 2.75, addressed in Pierce’s hand to his brother at the family homestead and president’s birthplace, “Colo. H. D. Pierce, Hillsboro, N. H.” and franked in the upper right, “Franklin Pierce”. Envelope is postmarked “Washington, D. C., Feb 27” with a pencil notation of “1857.”

In fine condition.  Age soiling.  Slight edge bite from prior opening between two letters on first name of signature.
