The Department has referred to me your note dated the 22nd instant, addressed to Mr. Edward Young, in which you request certain information as to the number of employees and the amount of revenue collected in this Custom House for the years 1860 to 1870.
It will give me pleasure to furnish the information you request, but in order that I may understand precisely the scope and character of the statement required, I think it would be well before having it prepared if you would call and see me on the subject.
