23rd President.

Three-page autograph letter signed “Your affectionate father, Benj. Harrison”, July [1], 1895, 4.75×8, personal stationery from Indianapolis, to his son Russell, in full:

Dear Russell,

I had before your letter came arranged with Dan Randall to greet Dana at the ID & S tomorrow for a squirrel hunt. We will not get back until Wednesday evening and I will be too tired to go to Terre Haute the next day – for so wild a time as you are to have.  It is my plan to go East about Tuesday or Wednesday of next week to get the camps ready for the folks, Tibbett will go with me. There are some little additions that I want to make to my will before I go East and I have been thinking again about how to arrange your share.  It is now given to you for life and then to Marthina.  I have explained that this was done not from any distrust of your business capacity but to insure against the risks of business.  But it is awkward and then I have thought that you owed some debts that you would want to adjust by the use of your inheritance if it was not done before.  What is your wish about it? Perhaps I could give 1/2 of what goes to you absolutely and the other half to Marthina. I suppose that May will be sure of [money] from her parents to provide against all contingencies.  Let me have any suggestions that occur to you right away for I want to make my changes that are to be made before I go East. I will let May know as soon as the camp is ready.  From a plan of the cottage I have just seen, I think we are going to be bunched for it is small.

Accompanied by original mailing envelope addressed in the former President’s hand.

Fantastic association letter from father to son, including three “Harrison” signatures.
