Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Massachusetts (1744–1814) who later served as vice president under James Madison. His name entered the language as a result of his support of politically advantageous redistricting, which became known as “gerrymandering.”

Autograph document signed “Elbridge Gerry”, October 23, 1765, Newbury Port, in full:

Recd of Capt. Wm Davenport four pounds eighteen shillings in full of all Demands

This is one of only a handful of full name Gerry autographs we can locate.  At this time, Gerry was just 21-years-old.

This autograph was originally part of one of the esteemed limited edition sets of American Statesmen.
