Autograph letter signed “Booker T. Washington”, March 3, 1905, Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute stationery, 8×10, to Franklin Carter, on the progress of his school and the students coming out of it, in full:
In handing you our Treasurer’s receipt for twenty dollars, the amount sent by you as a contribution toward our work, I wish to assure you that your interest as well as your donation, which has been applied to our general fund, helps and encourages me very much.

You will be interested to know that the work of the school is progressing nicely and that we have a full school of bright and promising young men and women.

We believe the recipient, Franklin Carter, was the recently retired President of Williams College.

Two punch holes at top, pencil notations on verso with no impact.
