Althea Gibson Personally Owned Social Security Cards - 2 Examples

Althea Gibson was a former World No. 1 American tennis player who became the first African-American woman to be a competitor on the world tennis tour and the first to win a Grand Slam title in 1956. She is sometimes referred to as "the Jackie Robinson of tennis" for breaking the color barrier.

UNIQUE pair of Social Security cards issued to, owned and signed by Gibson. The first is clearly an older version, listing Gibson's social security number and her name and address "Althea Gibson 135 West 143 St NYC" and is signed "Althea Gibson" with a very early, uncommon signature. The second card is a modern Social Security card listing her number and her married name "Althea Gibson Llewellyn" and is uncommonly signed with her married name "Althea Gibson Llewellyn".

Both cards originate from the Estate of Althea Gibson and were obtain at an auction at the 2009 US Open tennis tournament. Two special autographed items from one of the legends of tennis
