Harry S. Truman Typed Letter Signed - Great Truman Humor
33rd President. Typed letter signed (TLS) "Harry S. Truman", one page, 7.25x10.5, personal letterhead, December 12, 1961. Short letter to a member of the San Jose City College Merchandising Club, in full:
Thanks for yours of December 4th. I think the currency we have is good enough.
Under his signature, Truman writes: “Only trouble is I can’t have enough of it!”
In fine condition, with a tack hole to each top corner, and some stray ink flecks. A light hearted and amiable response from the former President.
Research via the Truman Library shows Truman was responding to a letter dated December 4, 1961 on San Jose City College stationery, in part: "The Merchandising Club of San Jose City College is sponsoring the adoption of converting our system of currency to Multi-colored currency. Foremost in our promotion plan is a campaign to obtain testimonials from informed Americans giving their endorsement of this conversion and its benefits to our country. May we include your name as a supporter of this conversion?..."
